About
Tristan Moore took his apprenticeship as an organ builder with Midland Organ, Hele & Co. Here he was instructed in all aspects of organ restoration, as well as tuning and voicing. During his time with this company he was responsible for the tuning and maintenance of many organs across the UK. He also took part in the restoration and rebuilding of several organs, gaining valuable experience with mechanical, pneumatic and electro-pneumatic actions.
In the early part of 2009 he relocated to London to take up a post with Mander Organs. During this time he worked on various projects, including several new instruments, as well as the rebuilding of many important and historic instruments including those at St Paul's Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall, Eton College and Harrow School. In 2009 he took part in the restoration of the organ at St George's Southall, and in 2011 he worked on the restoration of the 1912 Walker organ at Sacred Heart, Wimbledon.
Whilst working for Mander Organs, he gained valuable experience in all aspects of organ building, including metal pipe making, and in tuning and voicing, having worked on the tonal finishing and the voicing of pipes for several instruments. He was fortunate enough to have worked at various places in Europe, Asia and Africa.
In 2014 he moved north and began working for Kenneth Tickell & Company, where he worked on all aspects of organ building including programming and operating a CNC router. He worked extensively on the new organs for St John's School, Leatherhead and Manchester Cathedral, producing sound boards, action parts and woodwork for the consoles. He was heavily involved in the site installation for both of these instruments and completed the tonal finishing along with the Head Voicer. He was also responsible for the tuning and day-to-day maintenance of large instruments all over the country, including those in several cathedrals and Oxbridge colleges. As well as large instruments he regularly tuned chamber organs for many choirs and orchestras across the UK.
Between the years of 2012 - 2016, Tristan served on the board of directors for the Institute of British Organ Building, where he helped organise several meetings and worked on the development of a nationally recognised apprenticeship scheme.
In the summer of 2017 he decided the time was right to form his own company dedicated to providing high quality organ building and tonal services to other organ builders as well as private clients.
Outside of organ building Tristan has been a church and cathedral musician for over 20 years and has been a Lay Clerk at a number of cathedrals. Combined with his organ building experience, Tristan is well placed to understand the musical and liturgical roles a good instrument must play.
